A Million Miles: Ightham Mote

A MILLION MILES: SEPTEMBER

One of the best ways to cope with life in a big city is to make sure you leave it as often as possible. With this aim in mind we have created a series of Bleak House guides called ‘An Hour and A Million Miles’. This is a set of twelve day trips from London designed to inspire you to leave the city for a few hours and soak up some countryside. Each trip is only an hour or so from London but you will feel like you’ve travelled a million miles, and possibly back a couple of centuries too.

SEPTEMBER: A PUB LUNCH AT IGHTHAM MOTE

A trip to the drop dead gorgeous Tudor manor house Ightham Mote (Ightham rhymes with 'nightham', if your tongue is getting twisted over all those consonants), situation near Sevenoaks in Kent.

As well as having a real life moat and a great cafe, this fabulous National Trust property is surrounded by sun dappled woods perfect for a dog walk and is within walking distance of a rather lovely pub garden.
