1 Welcome to Learn to Shoot on Film

WELCOME TO LEARN TO SHOOT ON FILM

Welcome to lesson one! I’m so excited for us to get started.

Working with Lauren on this course has been so inspiring. As well as being a hugely talented photographer Lauren is a phenomenal teacher. She has a real knack of explaining complex information in easy to understand ways and her characteristic calmness and serenity really does foster an atmosphere of learning and understanding.

One of the most important lessons Lauren gave me is that the best way to learn to shoot on film is to just get out there and start shooting. And so that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

HOW THE COURSE WORKS

There is plenty of content to work though in these tutorials. The lessons are video-based and so grab a cup of tea, or a glass or wine, and settle down and enter the enchanting world of film.

You will of course need to make space to read and digest all the information and, most of all, dedicate time to shoot some rolls to practice your new skills. You can work through the lessons at your own pace, and watch the videos as many times as you like. There is no requirement for you to have finished the course by the time we meet in our workshops, but you will get more out of your time with Lauren if you have watched all of the videos and completed the assignments beforehand.

YOUR QUESTIONS

As you work your way through the tutorials you will I’m sure have questions to ask Lauren. You are welcome to ask Lauren any questions in the comments section under each lesson. It may take Lauren a day or so to reply to you so please be patient. Lauren will also be collecting questions for Q&A videos which will be posted in the two later lessons. Do make a note of any questions you might like a more lengthy answer to so that Lauren knows to include them.

SHARING

Our aim with this course is to create a supportive, active community of film photographers. Both Lauren and I would LOVE you to share your photographs and learnings online on your blog, Instagram feed or other online spaces. We’d love to follow along with your analogue journey and can’t wait to see your images. There are some details about sharing in the next lesson.

Lauren and I have worked really hard on this course and poured a lot of love into it. We hope that you enjoy working your way through the modules and that what you will learn will inspire a lifelong love affair with film photography. It is of course fine for you to talk in general terms about what you’re learning, but please do not share the links to these pages or directly copy any of the content. Thank you!
